Vdesk brings icons to user desktop running lightweight window managers such as fluxbox, blacbox, waimea,etc. It's based on idesk and is rewriten from scratch.


Vdesk has all the features of idesk and more:
  • Dialog box to manage icon
  • Display hourglass when launching application
  • Background image rotation
  • Run on Linux and BSD




    $ cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sf.net:/cvsroot/xvnkb login
    $ cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sf.net:/cvsroot/xvnkb co vdesk


Vdesk requires the following packages/libraries to work:

    $ ./configure
    $ make
    $ su
    # cp vdesk /usr/local/bin/vdesk
    $ vdesk

Add to ~/.vdesk/config to enable background wallpaper:

    Background.Source: ~/.vdesk/backgrounds
    Background.Delay: 3
    Background.Mode: Stretch

Copy any of your favourite background image in any format to ~/.vdesk/backgrounds:

    $ mkdir ~/.vdesk/backgrounds
    $ cp /path/to/myscreen.png ~/.vdesk/backgrounds/

Restart vdesk

Add vdesk to startx /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit or ~/.xinitrc:

    $ vdesk &
    $ /usr/local/bin/fluxbox
